Are you looking for an exciting way to spend one weekend a month and two weeks each year? Electronics Technicians (ETs) are in charge of maintaining virtually all of the Coast Guard’s electronics systems – from navigation systems to Command, Control, and Communication (C3) systems.
They are responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and management of sophisticated electronic equipment, including command and control systems, shipboard weapons, guidance and fire-control systems, communications receivers and transmitters, data and voice-encryption equipment, navigation and search radar, tactical and electronic-detection systems, electronic-navigation equipment, and computers.
Being an ET requires a vast knowledge of electrical theory along with practical hands-on skills needed to repair and maintain C3 systems. ETs in the Coast Guard learn how to repair and maintain HF SSB transceiver systems, antenna systems, VHF mobile transceivers, Direction Finders, GPS receivers, small boat Radar, depth finders, and integrated control systems. As you advance, other training is available—Advanced Computer, Engineering, and Technology education programs—which provides two years of full-time college paid for the member to obtain an Associates or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Technology.

All candidates applying for enlistment into the U.S. Coast Guard must meet basic age, physical, mental, civil, and citizenship eligibility criteria. Qualification for enlistment also requires passing an Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), and physical exam. Contact your local recruiter for qualifications. Reservists may be activated at times of emergency or disaster.
