Lead Structural Engineer ~ Houston, TX
BASIC FUNCTION: The Engineer 5 must perform without detailed direction and be capable of performing project engineering functions and supervising a project team. May be designated to be a Project Lead Discipline Engineer. May act as a Package Engineer on a project.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: - Reports directly to the Group Lead Engineer, and indirectly to the Project Engineering Manager. The Engineer is responsible for the proper and timely completion of the assigned engineering packages for the project. - Must coordinate effort and priorities with the Project Engineering Manager so that the engineering output coincides with the overall project schedule, and must coordinate manpower requirements with the Group Lead Engineer. Technical advice and direction is received from his supervisor (as well as other experienced company personnel) as required, but the Engineer is responsible for selection of methods and procedures and optimization of the design and materials within the scope of the project specifications. - Close cooperation with the Design and Drafting activity is essential to ensure that the design engineering is properly translated to the drawings and specifications.
- The Engineer may be assigned as the Package Engineer for some portion of a project. In this function he/she will perform the tasks defined for a Package Engineer. In this function he/she will have technical responsibility for the design, procurement and manufacture of the package. - Perform work consistent with Company Procedures, Quality Assurance Procedures, Corporate Engineering Standards, Department Work Instructions and all tasks and duties as assigned by Management. He/she shall strive to achieve the Engineering Performance Objectives. The originator of a document is primarily responsible for the correctness and quality of their work.
- Periodic domestic or international travel for customer and vendor contacts or for site support may be required.
EDUCATION: - Graduate Engineer from a recognized university in a relevant engineering discipline (i.e., structural, civil, mechanical, ocean, naval architecture, etc.) with 10 years relevant experience in chosen discipline or minimum 2 years at Engineer 4/Sr. Engineer grade.
- Offshore experience. An advanced Engineering degree or Professional Registration is desirable.
- The Engineer should have experience in engineering supervision and project scheduling and control as part of a project team. The position requires complete familiarity with many different discipline engineering principles and procedures, and the ability to apply or coordinate these, either directly, or through the supervision of other engineers assigned to the project team. - Familiarity with National and International Codes and Standards and Classification Society Rules, as well as working knowledge of normal commercial and marine fabrication materials, procedures, and capabilities.
